War

Today, as we speak, the United States is facing multiple challenges overseas, including but not limited to: conflicts in the Middle East, terrorism on a global scale, aggressive actions by Russia and China, and nuclear proliferation to rogue nation states like Iran and North Korea.  Some, including some Presidential hopefuls, have said that in some cases the use of military force may be necessary to resolve these challenges.

Question: When is the use of military force justified to achieve outcomes that further the interests if the United States?
