God’s best blessings to those serving in the American
military, to my fellow veterans, and especially to our honored dead; those who
lost their lives in the service of our country.
Thank you, and your families, for your service and sacrifice.
Somehow, our best and bravest continue to step up to the
plate and bear the burden of defending our freedom for the rest of us. The following poem is from another era, but it
speaks to the love of duty, honor, and
country that General Douglas MacArthur said motivates our military men and
women.
To Lucasta, Going
to the Wars
by Richard
Lovelace
Tell me not (Sweet) I am unkind,
That from the nunnery
Of thy chaste breast and quiet mind
To war and arms I fly.
True, a new mistress now I chase,
The first foe in the field;
And with a stronger faith embrace
A sword, a horse, a shield.
Yet this inconstancy is such
As you too shall adore;
I could not love thee (Dear) so much,
Lov’d I not Honour more.
To those who are content to let better men and women than
themselves do their fighting for them … those who find fault with their actions
under fire … those who would judge them and punish them … read how one of our
founding fathers felt about that:
They who can give
up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety
deserve neither
liberty nor safety.
Benjamin Franklin
