Hope

It has been about three weeks since my last post because I have been occupied by caring for my wife, who has a chronic illness.  Old age is not for the faint of heart.  However, God is good … all the time, and He sustains us when we have troubles.

We have a CD by Anne Murray called What A Wonderful World that has the old hymn Whispering Hope on it, and I would like to share the lyrics with you.  Anne Murray’s wonderful voice and pleasant singing style really touched my heart when I listened to it and the other songs on the CD.

Whispering Hope
By Septimus Winner

First Verse:

Soft as the voice of an angel,
Breathing a lesson unheard,
Hope with a gentle persuasion,
Whispers her comforting word.
Wait till the darkness is over,
Wait till the tempest is done,
Hope for the sunshine tomorrow,
After the shower is gone.

Chorus:

Whispering Hope
O how welcome thy voice,
Making my heart in its sorrow rejoice.

Second Verse:

If in the dusk of the twilight,
Dim be the region afar,
Will not the deepening darkness
Brighten the glimmering star?
Then when the night is upon us,
Why should the heart sink away?
When the dark midnight is over,
Watch for the breaking of day.

Chorus:

Whispering Hope
O how welcome thy voice,
Making my heart in its sorrow rejoice.

Third Verse:

Hope as an anchor so steadfast,
Rends the dark veil for the soul,
Whither the Master has entered,
Robbing the grave of its goal.
Come then, O come, glad fruition,
Come to my sad weary heart,
Come, O Thou blest hope of glory,
Never, O never depart.
O blessed Hope!

Chorus:

Whispering Hope
O how welcome thy voice,
Making my heart in its sorrow rejoice. [1]

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.  (1Peter 1:3-9 NKJV) [2]
