What is “Woke” or “Wokeism?” The terms appear to be evolving, and their definitions depend on who is doing the talking. Woke ideas are, however, attributed to the Left Wing of American politics.
With the midterm national elections approaching, it is incumbent on all US Citizens to be well-versed about what the issues are, and to make knowledgeable decisions about how they will vote. What follows is an attempt to inform American voters of some of these issues and to find what seems to be the best course of action.
Woke
Mirriam-Webster online, (a politically neutral source), defines woke as:
“aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)” [1]
Wokeness
Greenpeace, (a liberal source), says:
“At its core, “wokeness”
is simply the awareness of injustice. It is an awakening to the
systemic inequalities and oppressive structures that exist in our societies.”
[2]
That’s nice sounding stuff, and a lot of people take it at face value. However, it becomes anti-American and divisive, and it mitigates against intellectual and moral freedom when its proponents try to silence other points of view.
Lamp in a Corner is an unapologetically Christian Blog, with a conservative point of view of current events. Pastor Paul Chappel (a Christian source) has identified a number of things that are characteristic of the Woke viewpoint, including social justice, Critical Race Theory (CRT), equal rights for persons who live alternative lifestyles (LGBDQ), and economic equity. [3] Again, these positions may seem reasonable to some people. They become unreasonable, however, when they are subjected to critical examination.
The Progressives, and radicals on the Left have labeled opposing ideas as hate speech, Fascism, reactionary, racist, and homophobic. The press, social media, courts, and departments of the Executive Branch like Justice, Revenue, and Education have been used to promote the Woke agenda, and to discourage and suppress ideas that oppose Wokeism and the Woke world view.
As woke began to make its way into the common vernacular, its meaning has expanded to include things that are intended to bring about change to correct alleged social disparities like sexism and LGBTQ issues; with special attention to transgender rights. Wokeism now includes opposition to alleged social injustices like racism in the dominant White culture, White privilege, voter identification. Wokeism has been associated with the indoctrination of public school students with its views and excluding student’s exposure other ideas. Woke has been said to include abortion rights, identity politics, open borders, and reparations for slavery. Woke is inclusive of Marxist ideas that are anticapitalist. They advocate for the redistribution of wealth and are opposed to the private ownership of property.

Conservatives have accused Woke politicians of enriching themselves and abusing the public trust through corruption in high office. They believe that Wokeism is trying to take away the right of law-abiding citizens defend themselves by doing away with our right to keep and bear arms and removing law enforcement’s protection of the innocent. They are doing so despite the fact that they are turning the criminals loose into the community to victimize them. They have alleged that Woke demonstrators are being paid to protest, and that Woke politicians have been insincere by showboating and pandering to get votes.
It is not possible to adequately address each of these woke ideas in one Blog post. I will try to discuss them in subsequent commentaries. For now, let’s just take a moment to remember that Progressive ideas were tried by the Clinton, Obama, and Biden Administrations. The voters roundly rejected Progressive governance at the end of each of these administrations. Remember how good it was to see them go? Do you want the same kind of bad government again?
Regardless of how you see yourself – Republican, Independent, Conservative Democrat, Religious Conservative, or “other” – ask yourself if you really want the woke agenda to hold sway in our government once more. I don’t, and I’m not sure the USA can survive another round of it.
It matters how each and every one of us votes in
November. The bulk of the polls show
that the election will be close and that margins of victory will be razor
thin. Please support candidates who
support the President, or at least conservative governance. If you can’t vote for President Trump’s MAGA
agenda, then please vote against the wokeism being proffered by the Democratic
Socialists who have hijacked the Democratic Party. We must maintain the conservative voting
majorities in the US Senate and House of Representatives. Even better, let's pray that the midterm
election in November will provide a strong conservative voting majority in the
US Congress.
